We are currently developing three different flapping-wing UAVs (see the photos below). Each one is different in size and flies with a different flapping mechanism. Two of them have been tested in gliding. Flapping flight tests are the next step.

Ingi Mar Jónsson successfully defended his BSc thesis in Mechanical and energy engineering in October 2013. He designed and fabricated a camera module for the Gavia AUV owned by the research group of Prof. Gunnar Stefánsson at the University of Iceland. The module is fully integrated with the Gavia AUV and holds a Canon D5 camera which is controlled through a Raspberry Pi computer. The module is still under development and it is planned to do testing at sea next spring.

Phantom wing with Paparazzi

7/10/2013

Finally we got good enough weather for flying, we took out Funjet and Phantom wing to test with Paparazzi autopilot and our new gopro camera. Close the mountain Esja we flew Funjet in spiral up to 1500 meters and the signal was still  strong. The video above is from the Phantom circling up to 1000m altitude. The wing is a little bit unstable and needs some PID adjustment, the Funjet was really stable.
